Cornhole, which is growing in popularity not only in the United States, but across the globe is quickly becoming a must have game. It is popular for the simple fact that anyone can play and anyone can have fun while playing. Typically most people buy their cornhole sets, either through an online internet web store, or through a local listing such as Craigslist. Sets come complete with bags and boards. Most often after several rounds of playing cornhole bags can begin to deteriorate to the point that they may need to be replaced.

While there are many outlets for you to purchase new cornhole bags online, you can also just as easily make them with a sewing machine, some duck canvas cloth, some whole kernel corn feed and some high tinsel stitching.

You can go to any local fabric store and pick up what is called “duck canvas,” the shell of the cornhole bag. This fabric is extremely durable and thick. To make it more pliable it is suggested that you wash and dry the cloth prior to cutting. This will get rid of any shrinkage that may occur.

Cornole bags are 6 inch by 6 inch in regulation play. Since you probably won’t be playing any sanctioned tournaments in your backyard you can probably get as close to as possible without issue. Try to cut fabric squares of 6 and 1/2 inch by 6 and 1/2 inch. Sew 1/4 inch seams on 3 sides and turn the bags inside out. Fill the bags with between 14-16 ounces of whole kernel corn feed. Sew your final seam with double stitching and you are finished making your first cornhole bag. Repeat the process 7 more times to complete your set.

If you can’t find the duck canvas in your color, buy white and then dye the fabric. Be sure to wash the dyed fabric at least twice to ensure the color has taken. If not, simply re-dye until your color is achieved.
